House Of Cards

Years ago my wife and I had been attending a couples Sunday school class for several months. It has been interesting to see how the couple who lead the class attempt to get the others to communicate without really dealing with the basic issues of selfishness and pride that are the roots of most of ommunications problems.

During the last week of that class series I shared with that class a vision I had several months previously, and I'd like to share it with you too. One lady came over to me that Sunday after church and thanked me for sharing the vision because it had really hit her right between the eyes!! Bingo! Another guy in the class told me that he will use the vision in his counseling job! God is so amazing!!

Here is the vision:  I awoke one morning and lay in bed half asleep and half awake, which is very unusual for me.  I saw in my mind's eye an intricate house of cards, and a lady standing next to it. The house of cards was very complex, with five or six levels, and the cards were large and all white. The lady standing next to the house of cards was a pleasant looking lady with kind of a Mona Lisa smile on her face, and the house of cards was obviously hers.

Then I sensed someone approaching the house of cards from behind me, and the lady turned into a vicious guard dog, and scared the approaching person off so that no harm could come to the delicate house of cards. Then I awoke.

As I lay there, I said, "What was that about, Lord?" I got the strong sense that the house of cards was the lady's self will and self righteousness, and she was nice as could be as long as no one came close to disturbing her self will and self righteousness, but when danger approached, she reacted viciously! Just like the Pharisees in the New Testament!!  (Acts 22:21-22).

As as result of this vision I have learned to question whether a person's anger is righteous,

Eph 4:26-27 Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.

or maybe the anger is just the old selfish sin nature, used to control others by fear and intimidation!

Gal 5:19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, Gal 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, Gal 5:21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Notice that getting rid of these "works of the flesh" from our lives is so important that failure to do so will keep us from inheriting the Kingdom of God!!!!

I do know that I am most in harmony with people who really love the Lord from a humble and contrite heart and are seeking to please Him first rather than themselves or others. The power of His love is so great, and His meekness and lowliness of heart enable a person to listen to the truth - even if it hurts, and to receive truth which sets a person free from his or her delusions and self-righteousness!

Heb 13:20-21  Now may the God of Peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the Sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to Whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
